HAND PHONE AND BRAIN TUMOUR

A report just out after much study revealed that heavy usage of hand phones will result in higher risk of cancer especially in young people.

So call your friends less on the hand phone. Instead use the normal phone for longer calls in the comfort of your house.

Be wise for I had met a lot of younger and healthy people with brain cancer.

Be wise and take this advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIVE FISH AT SUPERMARKET

Tonight I watched fishes at a supermarket as they await their fate to end up at the dinning tables of some people. I cannot help but wondered how cruel this practice can be. Imagine the poor fish was transported to the market to be sold to the supplier at the supermarket. Here they were kept in o2 water without nutrients and most will be starved and sick. The stress that they went through cannot be imagined and as a result they suffer from fungus and look sick and tired. Here they await their fate as their fellow fishes were scooped up and died right in front of their eyes.
It is bad enough to eat their dead and rotting bodies much less to subject them to this torture.
CAN ANYONE HELP AND WHERE ARE THE ANIMAL LOVERS AND THE SO CALLED ADVOCATES !!!!!!!!!!
BEFORE YOU DIG INTO THEIR FLESH PLEASE SPARE SOME THOUGHT TO THEIR FATE.
BE KIND AND BE SENSITIVE.

THE CONSCIENCE GREEN TIPS

Going green is not easy but it is something all of us will have to try if the future is going to be brighter. Global warming and the warning of APOCALYPSE nearing in our generation is more a reality as the years past us by.
The least promoted tip is to go vegetarian. A recent program @ BBC cited that going green by cutting off meat in our diet will contribute greatly to helping to reduce Carbon emission into the atmosphere. BBC claimed that a recent study put down the emission of carbon from cattle and other ruminants at 18% and that of all cars and machines to be only 15% of the total carbon output daily. This gas are released into the air from the stomach and various measures were tried to reduce this source of carbon but with no success. So going green is not only about reducing carbon usage but also diet.

THE COMMERCIALIZATION OF MEDICAL CARE

It is amazing how the average person will have to work all his life to built a family and prepare for the aging days only to be wipe off all his savings when he gets sick. Medical science had made tremendous improvement but it is also getting more costly and the personals involved are getting richer by the days.
The true purpose of doctors are getting diluted by the days and now only the drive to be rich is the only driven purpose for most if not all.
How many of those involved in this trade are poor? NONE!!!
I was amazed when I read that ancient CHINA paid the doctors by the health of his patient and treatment was free when the person falls sick.
Not many doctors are kind and honest like before. Often the escalating cost of medicine was attributed to the improvement of diagnosis and better medicine but I often wondered whether the cost justified the huge increase.
This cartoon really strike a cord and I often wondered how many deserving patient died daily in the world because they do not have the dollar to pay the doctor????????????
Doc, you are important to us, so please spare a thought before you charged the tiny little things into you final bill for the poorer patient.

GUITAR---MADE IN CHINA---WONDERFUL SOUND

I bought this guitar 5 years ago for $50/ and I never regretted it at all because it is cheap and made in CHINA too.
No toxic gas or paint or lousy strings. It is tough and survived a few falls and it is still producing beautiful music.
Surprised but not me.
WHO SAYS ALL THINGS CHEAP AND MADE IN CHINA ARE BAD!!!!!. IT IS ALL IN THIS STUPID WESTERN MINDED BRAINS THAT WE DEVELOPED OVER THE YEARS AND WE NEED TO CHANGE THIS MIND SET FOR CHINA IS HERE TO STAY AND THIS SUPER POWER WILL ONLY BE STRONGER, AS STATED IN THE PREDICTION OF THE GREAT SAGES.

WARNING OF IMPENDING DISASTER OR JUST NATURE IN TURMOIL!!!

Just in from todays' Chinese newspaper---Reports from Malacca and China.
1. Birds circling the forest, afraid to rest on the trees. Eagles and others flying in abnormal numbers in a circle as if deeply disturbed by some unseen forces.

2. Crabs and other swamp creatures running from their barrows

3. Funny skinless fishes with deformed skull caught in large numbers. These are usually deep sea fishes and will only surfaced in the event of deep sea and land movement.

ARE THIS FURTHER SIGNS OF APOCALYPSE !!!!!

MY FAVORITE COUNTRY SINGER

GLEN CAMPBELL ----the gentleman of country music
that serenaded me in the 60s and 70s. I bought a DVD of his concert and was so moved by his grace and manly voice plus the great guitar playing he displayed. What a showmanship !!

Remember his great hits like----
1. GENTLE ON MY MIND.
2. I BELIEVE.
3. RHINESTONE COWBOY.
4. DREAMS OF THE EVERYDAY HOUSEWIFE.
5. GALVESTON.
6. ONLY MADE BELIEVE.
7. DREAM DREAM DREAM.
8. ETC

A great time to relax in the afternoon and remember the good old times in KUCHING. We were poor but happy then.

APOCALYPSE OR JUST CLIMATE CHANGE

The last few weeks were smeared with the disastrous natural events that hit the region of the pacific and around the south eastern part of Asia.
1. Australia----dust storms, hail storms, earthquakes and threats of bush fires.
2. Philippines--3 typhoons that caused numerous floods, mudslides and death.
3. Saoma----- Tsunamis and death after earthquakes in the pacific ocean.
4. Indonesia----Earthquakes in the Padang region causing numerous death.
5. China----- Minor earth tremors.
6.Vietnam,Taiwan, Laos,Japan and China-----Floods and water disasters.

What is the world and nature telling humanity???
Time is near and the apocalypse is on now as predicted by numerous religions and fortune teller.
People have evolved to be self centered and care for themselves more than others. Their habits of making more money to enrich themselves at the expanse of their fellow man and nature is worsening by the day. Hideous crimes are numerous as the good people turn to be HEDONISTIC and deviated from their conscience.
These are all the signs of the beginning of the end of humanity or the APOCALYPSE as stated in the bible and the numerous written text from the Chinese writers both holy men and women.
The only salvation is self introspection and be a good example for others to follow.

F1-----10 REASONS WHY THIS EVENT IS NOT WORTH THE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!

1. Itwas environmentally very unfriendly as it used a lot of energy. Imagine how much energy and CARBON this F1 released into the air to create night into day.
2. It caused many traffic jams and inconveniences to the public.
3. Waste of public money which can used for the poor and elderly. Singapore is not a welfare state but for some reason it is pretty sympathetic to the noisy and stupid race.
4. Noise pollution.
5. Lost of money to many businesses in the heartland
6. The event indirectly contributed to vices like gambling, increased intoxicant usage and prostitution.
7. The lack of respect shown to our PM LEE at the prize award ceremony.
8. The show that told the world that our Spore idol cannot sing the national anthem well.
9.The lack of proper organization of the race and it;s controversies.
10. It only served to enrich the foreign companies.
AM I WRONG????????

MOON CAKE FESTIVAL----THE ACTUAL MEANING?

Many stories abound regarding the real reason for this traditional celebration for the Chinese people. With the globalization of the world economies and the rise of China, the celebration had spread through the race barrier especially for a multi -racial country like Singapore. We see people of all races coming together to celebrate this wonderful union. Even in churches the moon cake celebration was also well attended by their congregation. It had thus evolved from a purely Chinese Belief to one that transcend the race and religious barrier. A wonderful example of an evolving world where the cultures and beliefs of all people come together in a wonderful and meaningful show of humanity at it's BEST.
The MOON CAKE by itself also represented the merging trend with odd and varied flavor but the traditional flavours are very much alive. The shape of the cake represent the reunion of families and races of the nation. In the grassroots organizations this is an important event to bring people together and harmonized the societies of the nation.
The firm and delightful skin of the MOON CAKES reflect the need to hold and preserve the harmony of the people both within the family and the nation.
The different flavors are an indication of the diversities and richness of the people.
HORRAY TO THE BEAUTY OF THE MOON CAKE CELEBRATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A NIGHT OUT AT THE SINGAPORE FLYER

Last week I visited the Singapore flyer with my sister's family visiting from Australia.
We went there in the evening and by the time we beat the traffic and long line to enter the carpark it was already night.
We parked the car and took a long walk before we reached the building housing the Flyer. As we made our way thru' the building to finally join the queue to board the flyer we often wandered when the journey to the boarding will end.. The attendants were all very polite and well trained in handling the crowd. The half hour ride on the flyer was ok but I found it to be a bore and I do not think I will made another trip.
The Spore skyline was nice but I think spending $30/ per person is too much and the walk to and after the ride was too long and uninteresting.
Parking is a problem and the poor restaurants and other businesses were quiet and I don't blame the shoppers for not going there because it is such a hassle to just get to the place.

GOOD LUCK THE SINGAPORE FLYER!!!!!!!!!!

A LESSON FROM MY CAT

This is SIMON my cat who live in my clinic and love to laze around and enjoy life to the fullest.
He is full of patience and is wonderful to human and dogs but not to his own kind.
His presence attracted a lot of admirer who will drop in to carry him and touch him.
Happy and contented he really and rarely show his displeasure except to just run away when conditions are not right for him.
His wisdom is great and I wish I can be the same when I am faced with difficult situation.
THANK YOU SIMON FOR SOMETIMES YOU ARE WISER THAN ME.

IF YOU HAVE A PASSION DO IT NOW! DO NOT WAIT FOR TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE.

I came across this story in the straits time and was touched by the thought which I used to entertain.

A very successful businessman had a passion for books, all kinds of books but he was too busy to read any because of his hectic life.
To compromise he told himself not to worry for he will buy as many books as he can when he travel and stored them in his library. Soon his house was full of books and one day he decided to retire. So on the first day of his retirement he was so happy and proceeded to the library and tried to read his books,
Sad to say he realized his vision was poor and he had a lot of difficulties reading them.
REGRET HE DID!!!!!!! BUT HE CANNOT TURN THE CLOCK BACK.
IF YOU HAVE A PASSION DO IT!!! DO NOT WAIT FOR LATER FOR TIME AND OUR BODY AGED. THEY DO NOT WAIT FOR US!!!!

DEPARTURES----- A MOVING TALE OF HUMAN DIGINITY

I was very curious to know why a Japanese movie won the Best Foreign Film at the Academy Award 2009, so I got hold of a DVD and proceeded to watch the movie.
To my amazement, I was so moved and touched by the slow but meaningful tale of Japanese passion for their work and their deep understanding of life and death.
I watched the entire length of the movie and was reduced to tears many a times. It made me realised that nothing is too meaningless if we all bothered to search deep and do our task with pride and understanding of the purpose and consequences. The action from this work if perfected would bring new meaning to the observer and convinced them the need and meaning of our work.
The movie followed a simple story line and each development was well timed and brought new meaning to the passage of life on earth and the movie.
I finished the movie and came out feeling proud of my work both in my career and spiritual work.
A MUST SEE IF YOU HAVE NOT CATCH THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!

THE JASMINE FLOWER---LIKE LIFE ON EARTH!

This beautiful flower blossomed in my garden not too long ago and now it is gone. A short time to admire the beauty and smell the fragrance of the flower only. It took many months to reach the flowering stage and yet the flowers did not last long. As it withered it form seeds and the green seeds lasted longer. The flower can also be used for tea and is often presented to the BUDDHA during prayers.

The purity and whiteness of the flowers attracted many insects and even me, human. The bud grew into a pure white sphere before it blossom into the amazing flower.
This photo consisted of 5 buds and only the middle blossom at this moment.

The transformation of the bud to flower from the Jasmine plant is very much a reflection of our journey on this earth.
It took us many years to grow up, to be of use and once we think we are there, it is time to go but the seeds of our life remain to carry on this existence on earth.

Our journey may be short but we can made the most of it by being of use to our fellow beings.
The meaning of life is there if we will accept it and we can not do much except hold on to the heart of GRATITUDE and be HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MEMORIES OF THE BUAH KOLONG TREE

The tree on the left is common in Kuching and my old house used to have at least a few growing around it. I still remembered the old Kolong Tree, growing on the left side of the house, near the old long kang. It was at least 3 storeys tall and used to bear fruit, some as big as a cricket ball. Amazingly, crunchy, sweet and sour and it goes well ,eaten with a mixture of soya sauce, chilli and sugar. It can also be pickled and were often sold at entrances of cinemas and wayang.

I often climbed the tree as high as I could, to reach the young shoots and fruits too. I had a fair share of falls and encounters with catepillars, bees, birds and others stinging insects. When in season I remembered spending hours plucking the fruits with my family members, putting them in basket and packing them in plastic bags to deliver them to friends and relatives FOC. The KAMPONG SPIRIT is really great and giving and receiving little gifts is a norm in those days.

My last visit to Kuching this year the old Kolong Tree is not as prosperous and is barely 10 feet tall as the trunk had rotted away and there was much less activity.
The main killer is the filling up of the drain by construction work around the house by my neighbours which deprived the tree off nutrients and water. It is still alive but GOD knows for how long.
When I see Buah Kolong any where in this world, it will definately triggered memories of this amazing chapter of my journey on earth. I must be thankful to the tree for giving me many things and provided me with among all, the chance to exercise and grow, plus exposure to the wisdom of nature.
I MUST SAY A BIG THANK YOU to this amazing tree.

GOOD COLLECTION OF OLDIES ----- CHINESE SONGS.

CHINESE OLDIES FROM THE 60's and 70's..
  • I was so happy to find this collection of old songs from the era where I grew up, in the old kampong days in KUCHING, SARAWAK.
  • I must admit that I do not know much about the singers but listening to the songs really brings back memories of the good old days in my home town. Mandarin was not promoted at all and we the Chinese youth of the 60s and 70s were taught only in English and Malay. The Chinese radio program was for only a few hours in the morning and evening and was mostly devoted to malay government propaganda. The most popular event on radio was the chinese songs (half hour program) and the DJ will also play chinese pop songs as requested by listeners. The TV progam were all in malay and english with only chinese news broadcast avaliable. The other source of chinese was the cinema which was filled with Kung Fu and love stories. So singers like Wang Chin Niang, Ee Tian,Yu Ya,Liu Chia Chang, Yio Su Rong and Liew Wen Chen were extremely popular. Film stars like Bruce Lee, Ti Lung, Loh Lieh,Chen Chen,Ling Ching Sia and Tien Nui were equally hot. Being poor I remembered having to brave the sun ,wind and rain to cycle with my friends to the cinemas to catch these shows. Often we had to go very early to buy the cheapest seats priced at 50 cents. It is right in front of the screen and we often ended up with a stiff neck but we loved it. Kuching had many nice food too. KOLO MEE, ICE KACHANG and LAKSA which is special to the Kuchingnese. They were cheap and wonderful and you have to be the best to survive. BRING BACK OUR CHILDHOOD WHEN YOU PLAY THIS OLDIES !!! NEVER MIND WHETHER YOU UNDERSTAND OR NOT BECAUSE MEMORIES ARE WRITTEN IN OUR MIND. GOOD OLD KUCHING!!!!!!

FILIAL MISDEED ------ WHO IS TO BLAME?

It is a sad day for the developed countries of the world, especially the nations of ASIA where filial piety is a cultural norm.
In ancient days, filial piety is highly regarded and anyone who dared to neglect their parents were considered as an outcast and immoral.
The teaching of filial piety starts at a young age both in school and within the family, where the parents are highly regarded and feared.
As children becomes less abundant and more
precious, parents treasured them more and showered them with attention and gifts. But they forgot to shower them with wisdom. Respect for parents diminish and the more parents slot to built an easy living for the family, the more they forgot to teach. Schools are more concerned with good grades and sports rather them inculcate the development of a socially responsible human being. The cycle spins downwards and we are seeing the tip of the ice berg.
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THIS? WILL REGULATION HELP OR WILL MORE EDUCATION RATHER THEN REGULATION HELP? CAN RELIGION HELP? CAN MORE BE DONE? CAN WE STOP THE NEGLECT AND REMEMBERED THE SACRIFICES OF OUR PARENTS? ONLY A HEART OF GRATITUDE AND COMPASSION CAN GUIDE US OUT OF THIS PROBLEM..............................................

THE SPIRIT OF THE NATION -----the humble Bougainvillea

This humble and colorful plant is versatile and is a common plant in Singapore. I often admire the nature of the shrub and in many ways it is a close resemblance to the nation of Singapore. Let me count the similarities.

1. It is not a native plant---most of our people are immigrants from other parts of the world.
2. It comes in different shapes, colors and sizes-----our people are of different race ,culture and religion.
3. It is easy to plant and grows easily---- our people are versatile and prosper in this harden land and the newer generations are making in roads throughout the world in all fields including business, science and technology.
4. It is a beautiful flower but hidden within the bushes are the thorns that will hit you if you try to destroy it-----Our nation is a soft, colorful and gentle society but our army are forever vigilant one and will fiercely defend her rights and territory.
5. It is a hardy plant that will withstand the harshness of weather and time-----Our nation is well placed to withstand the recession and other hardship and the leaders are wise and honest to help all the people of this nation.
6. The flowers are lasting and do not drop off so easily----The success of our nation like the flowers are ever lasting like the airport, port, etc and they continue to contribute to the pride of the nation.
7. A resilent plant that do not require much fertilizer------like Singapore we do not need the help of other nation or world bodies.
8. This plant is easy to shape and with regular pruning it will show its best colors-----Like Singapore it has a good government and she is able to be shaped to be the best in the world.
9.It is also a medicinal plant---- the success of this nation is an example to the people of the world and we are often the first nation to help our fellow human in times of diseaster.

BRAVO TO THE HUMBLE PLANT AND THE NATION OF SINGAPORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Singapore COFFEE.

Coffee taste different and each country have their own unique taste. The coffee culture is thus unique to each and every individual too. Some hate coffee and will never touch it and yet for most the coffee is a must to kick start the day and peck me up throughout the whole day and night.

Most singaporean are well traveled and would by now tasted more than one flavor of coffee. High class or low class coffee, cheap or expansive coffee, the aroma of each is different. Having just recently came back from an overseas trip I found myself missing the true blue singapore coffee. It could be its blackness, aroma or the unique coffee shop ambience .

The typical coffee in Singapore is black coffee with 30% roasted barley or corn and often butter is added in to enhance the taste and flavor. Brewed in hot water and mixed with cream, condensed or evaporated milk,it gives out a unique flavor found only in Singapore. You can have it black with or without sugar, hot or cold, or mixed with black tea.
It also comes in different size and shape of the cups.
I must say this is another unique drink that I can steal from the world to call it a typical singaporean coffee like the chicken rice.
We called it coffee O ,kopi, kopi kosong, kopi si,kopi peng and kopi gagah

Cheap and easily avaliable this is a wonderful cup of drink that i will need daily and definately proud of. My salute to the uncle and auntie that work early in the morning to prepare this heart warming brew for the singaporean that loves it.

THE GREEN LIFE----WHAT IT MEANS TO ME !!

Going GREEN is the hope of many but to put it to use is not easy. We are to entrench in our energy wasting lifestyle and comfort is too important to us . So the air conditioning, radio , TV,etc is so much a part of us that we failed to notice the wasteful habit.
I have adopted a few ways in my effort to be green and more should be added later.

1. Be a vegetarian as it reduces the carbon load to the atmosphere.

2. Try to conserve water as it requires a lot of energy to bring you the fresh water to the tape. Showers, flushing of toilets and other wasteful ways of using water must be reduced.I will also collect rain water to water the plants.

3. Walk and reduce on car usage if necessary. My next car must be a green one too.

4. Plant all kinds of trees, flowers and all things green to absorb the excessive carbon in the atmosphere.

5. Use less of the TV and other electrical appliances eg. lights. Use more energy efficient ones.

6. Recycle all plastic bags, bottles, plates etc as often as possible. Try to use glass bottles and others.

7. Recycle newspaper,books and magazines.

8. Reduced on wasteful cooking like baking and long boiling of soups and stews.

9. Try to reuse our clothes to prevent too much washing of water.

10. Do not smoke and reduced on incense burning.

GO GREEN ,BE GREEN AND THE WORLD WILL HAVE A LONGER LIFE SPAN FOR ALL TO ENJOY. THE EFFORT OF ALL INDIVIDUAL IS IMPORTANT !!!!!!

NATIONAL DAY DINNER 2009

This year the NATIONAL DAY DINNER was held on the 1/08/09 and it was an impressive set up and well organized right to the end of the show. I was seated on table ONE which was unfortunately located in front of the big mega speaker and my ears took a beating from the excessive decibel.
The table was a $1000/ table and the food was normal but the drink service was terrible with many having to serve their own drinks.
The performance was ok and we did have a good time despite the poor seating location and the noise.
The photo was taken by the wonderful WILLIAM from the passion photographer and Mr Chua Kah Soon was at hand to help me with the vegetarian food . THANKS TO THE HARD WORKING ORGANIZERS of this years NDD 2009.
MAJU LAH SINGAPORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HUNGRY GHOST MONTH FESTIVAL IN SINGAPORE

The seventh lunar month is the traditional time to celebrate the Festival of the Hungry Ghosts. It is a time of celebration and most chinese will take this opportunity to pay respect to their ancestor and also the wandering ghosts. In Spore, the festival is an important one and is a busy time for businesses, temples and singers performing at the various dinners and auctions.
MPs and people of all races and religions are also invited and it is a good opportunity for all to understand and respect the custom of all in this harmonious society.
Traditionally, the festival kicks off on the 20/08/09, that is the first day of the seventh month.
On the family front, this is a time to remember past love ones and many chinese believers will be busy preparing feasts and folding hell money and others to burn for the spirits in the after world.
This promotes interaction and harmony to the family members as they will gather around to talk and prepare the favorite dishes for the departed loved ones.
A tradition that last for centuries but in this fast changing world this custom may die off soon.
At the moment, this custom in Singapore is still very much alive but feedback from our elders have indicated the fast declining numbers.
This is a part of Singapore that may not stood the test of time.

THE TIP OF THE ICE BERG----MELTING ICE

As mankind abuse and rape the resources of the world, little did they know that their greed is helping to hasten the end of the world.

Even when all evidence are staked and presented to the world their are still some who refused to admit that the world is spinning faster to its ending, thanks to the greed of a few.

The insatiable need for material comfort and the greed to accumulate wealth is the driving force that fueled the melting of the ice berg and the rising sea level,as a result of global warming.
The increased carbon output and the destruction of the forests, the lungs and storage of the carbon in the atmosphere is evident and requires no further explaining.

Going GREEN to save GAIA is easier said than done but we all have the moral obligation and salvation to do so. It may not
be for us or our neighbor but for our future generation too.
We must not rely too much on the false HOPE and promises of science to solve this problem.

The journey may take a long time but we need to take the first step and moved on ,ignoring the wasteful habits of others. We may be a drop in the ocean of humanity but it takes many drops to make the ocean. Our effort maybe negligible but it is vital too.

So when we cut down on the need to use energy excessively, we are all but part of the whole called humanity that have a conscience and feel like the mother earth. We are after all sharing the same spirit as the trees, grass, fish, animals on land, water and sky, the mountains and the sky. BE GREEN AT HEART AND STOP THE MELTING OF THE ICE BERG.

MY GUITAR ------A WONDERFUL FRIEND IN TIMES OF SADNESS AND HAPPINESS.

Music is an important part of our life and it goes where our moods and emotion goes.
I love music since I was a young boy and used to sing along when my mum was listening to teochew opera. Being poor I was only able to afford a harmonica and I learnt it myself within a day. Later on my big brother bought an old guitar for $20/ and when he left to study overseas, I took over and slowly got to strum songs and learn to sing. Self learning is great and I was able to pick up most songs of the 60s and 70s with the old songs book.
In my ups and downs, through the years, this old guitar followed me and is still an old reliable friend to cry my hearts out and also to share my moments of joy.
Since them I had acquired 4 more guitars but I can never forget the good old days spent with my old friend, the guitar.
The song by John Denver "this old guitar" is my ever lasting favorite and described my true feelings.
My THANKS TO THIS OLD FRIEND.

A GREEN THOUGHT------------USE WHAT WE NEED!!!!!!!

THE WORLD CAN MEET ALL OUR NEEDS BUT NOT ALL OUR GREED.

SO USE ONLY WHAT WE NEED AND NOT AS IF WE CAN GO SHOPPING ELSEWHERE.

CONSERVE OUR NATURAL HERITAGE.

PRESERVED OUR LIMITED INHERITANCE.

TREASURE OUR GIVEN RESOURCES.

THINK OF THE FUTURE----THINK OF OUR NEWER GENERATION.

SINGAPORE ----THE NATION OF WEALTHY GOVERNMENCE

Every year as the 9th of August arrived I cannot help but wondered why a small island, located right at the tip of the Malay peninsula and among bigger nations, can be among the richest in the world.

Lacking in all natural resources except for the abundance of human, most of which had emigrated from other nations, Singapore is well blessed and thrived to excel and stand up to be noticed by the world.

The greatest gift to this country is the evolution of the greatest wealth ,any country in this world could dream of--- CLEAN,DEDICATED and FUTURISTIC GOVERNMENT.
It did not come easy and the credit must go to the founders and dedicated leaders of the PAP government. Without our MM LEE KUAN YEW and his devoted minsters, the nation of Singapore might not have lasted this long. His vision for the nation and the integrity and honesty of the PAP leaders is the main reason why our nation stood tall among the world. This government believe in sharing the wealth of the nation by dividing it equally among the citizens, regardless of race, religion and political affiliation. It's efficiency and ability to provide for all is the reason why the majority of the voters returned the government at every election.
This is the greatest wealth, GOD had bestowed onto the nation of SINGAPORE.
So on the 9/08/09 at 8.22 pm I will stand tall and recite the pledge with all SINGAPOREAN, all over the world. THANK YOU to the founders of the nation of SINGAPORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OUR GRATITUDE AND LOVE TO ALL THE WONDERFUL LEADERS OF THIS BEAUTIFUL NATION.

NATIONAL DAY DECORATION @ THE CLINIC

Every year as the 9/08/09 approaches, my clinic will be decorated with flags and banners, in red and white. This year I was able to get some small flags and it was a proud moment when I was able to finish the simple and yet dignified display of the national flags and colors. The year 2009 will be a memorable year for it is riddled with ups and downs and the worst recession in memory. Singapore was badly affected but the quick response of the government and the innovative ways devised to help all singaporean get out of this recession was well accepted.
My THANKS TO THE GREAT SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT and may the wise and dedicated leaders of this great country lead a happy and healthy life. GOD BLESSED SINGAPORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LONGIVITY ---can only come with a meaningful and fruitful life

A long life is the wish of many in this world especially the rich and powerful. Emperor Shi Huang Ti was obsessed with a eternal life and spend much resources trying to find the answer to an eternal life.He was not succeeful and died a lonely death filled with fear and sorrow. Many others like wise followed the same route all over the world.
The advances in modern medicine had lead to a much longer life span for both man and woman but are they living a happier and fruitful life with the extra time given to them. The answer is often a big NO!!!!!!!!!! Often the extra days and nights are spend in worthless and meaningless pursuit of the fleshly needs and desires. These lead to stress and often more sorrow.
The few who succeeded and are happy, like the mother Teresa of singapore. She is not loaded with $$$$ but lead a simple life with few needs and a vegetarian diet. They are happy because they spend their life helping others and sharing the little belongings they processed.
The main aim is more not so much a long life but a meaningful and fruitful life filled with love and consideration for their fellow beings and animals. RESPECT ALL LIFE AND YOU WILL BE BLESSED WITH A HAPPY AND LOVING LIFE OF LONGIVITY. GOD IS ETERNAL BECAUSE HE LOVE EVERYTHING THAT HE CREATED!!!

HEARING AND LISTENING------IS THERE A DIFFERENCE?

You can be hearing out your friend's words and yet not able to understand the meaning because you are not listening. To HEAR is the act of receiving the sound waves of the voice with our ears and to listen is to understand the words and meaning of the speech. The later needs both the ear and brain. Many a times we are hearing and yet not listening because we are either not concentrating or we are not interested in the content of the speech. This is why to hear is natural and to listen requires more than the sensory act but both our knowledge and wisdom.
Often when we listen we tend to unconsciously formulate a response and action even before the speech was completed. This often leads to misunderstanding and conflict. In ancient day this is the main cause of WARs. There is a saying that asked us all to listen twice more than we talk. Nature provides for this as we have two ears and only one mouth.
Many a great leaders and achievers are great listeners and not speakers. Some are gifted in both aspect eg. OBAMA.
Many a great religious figure are man and woman of few words and their few words are words of gold because they carry more wisdom then a nagging long speech.
Be contented that we have a perfect pair of ears and have a heart of wisdom for we can understand the words and the wisdom bestowed in it Be happy for we are capable of both as a listener and to be listened to.

A BUCKET FULL OF RICE

This is a common sight in all Singapore home and how often do we not ignored it. It is cheap and we used it daily so it became part of this seamingly, endless and uneventful life. Its content is more often than not ignored and gets thrown away half eaten. Majority of us do not know the hardship that goes into the cultivation of the staple food of ours,RICE.
The GOD must be merciful and ensured that there is ample sunshine, rain and good quality earth for the grain of rice to grow. Too much of sunshine or water will wipe away the soil that allows the rice to grow or kill it. The farmer must know the weather and must plant and harvest it at the right moment. The hardship that goes into the processing of the rice hask to the fragrant and beautiful white rice is beyond our imagination. Next is the storage of the grain of rice before the transportation to the supermarket. At the shop, our poor parents have to buy the sacks of rice to bring home before cooking it for our nourishment and enjoyment. This shows the journey of the grain of rice so do we still treat it as the cheapest part of our meal everyday? I often see parents throwing rice away and encouraging their children to eat the meat and leave the rice. We do blame rice for making us fat but we also cannot do without it. Parents should set a good example and educate their children on the preciousness of the simple food RICE. So now do we still treat this simple container like thrush or gold. The real gold is the rice inside. Gratitude to the farmers, the transporters, our parents, wife who cooked the rice and most of all the heavenly GOD that provide the food for us. Be contented, have a heart of gratitude and be happy!!!!!!!!!!!!

MYSTERY OF NATURE OR A MIRACLE?????

This picture was taken in Taiwan after a religious class by a group of students. Initially it was just a simple hole in the clouds but on closer look by the elders,it resembled the face of a woman and incidentily the face is the image of the Great Buddha,Che Mu. Facts or miracle!!!!!!!!!!!
No tricks but just plain mystery or imagination.

THE PET CARNIVAL @ THE SERANGOON 2009

The event was organized by the Pet Community and sponsored by the SNMA as part of the HEARTLAND FIESTA. It was a wonderful event with animals of all kinds and I was very proud to be invited by Mr Chua Kah Soon, the org. chairman, to be the resident VET. The event was even covered by the TV and press. A galore of prizes and games was in store. There were hamster race, magic show, bird park parrot demonstration, dog demonstration and a host of other activities. This event is special as it involves all the shops in the SNV and there was also a bird singing competition involving the sharmas, mata puteh too. My role as the vet was easy and I teamed up with WATSON who specialized in prescription diet for pets. There were food samples to be given out, starter kit pack for cats and dogs, exhibition of bladder stones, tumours and cute photos from my clients, many brochures for all types of sickness and a question and answer session too. The turn up was good but it could be better if not for the H1N1 virus. The organizer were so kind to asked Mrs Lim Hwee Hua to present a token of appreciation to me too. I must also thank the MC , who did a wonderful job and kept the crowds entertained throughout the day.. THANKS TO ALL !!!!!

MEOW!!!!! I AM HAVING A RELAXING REST IN THE COOLINESS OF THE CLINIC .

I may look fierce and serious but deep down I love the company of human. I am very interested in the behavior of human. Some screamed when I tried to get close to them and others are just fascinated by my fur, majestic face, cute look and my BOOH CHAP attitude. I even have a fan who will chanted Thai buddhist prayers to boost my mystic and feline charm once in awhile. I am down to earth and I do not like expansive toys to play. Just give balls of used paper for I am green at heart. I watched my weight and eat just enough so I will maintain my good looks.Life is fun as I watched the world goes round in the clinic. My boss is allergic to my fur but he will still carry and cuddle me everyday. Once in a a while I will run out of the clinic to meet my 2 girlfriends. I love to play hide and seek with my boss and madam when they tried to get me back to the clinic. By the way, I like the name SIMON and I will only responded to this name much to the dislike of my owner. They tried to give me away to 2 new families but I gave them HELL so they have to return me to their clinic.
I shared the 3 rooms above the clinic with another 2 cats. I live in harmony with them but I learned to respect the old QUEEN called marble and the other cat SUNSHINE is deeply in love with me. Life is good to me and I must thanked the old GOD for looking after all my needs. My job in the clinic is of course public relation cat and I get to go on vacations too. No BONUS but I am fine and I do not intent to join the union. GOOD NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW TO HANDLE THE SALTINESS OF LIFE?

Life is full of ups and downs. Sometimes it is sweet and other times salty. How we view the complexity of life and it's problem will determine our outlook and ultimately it's solution.
A few days ago I came across a story that hit me and taught me the very nature of the world and it's problem.

A troubled man went to a monk to seek advice for his life problem. He was met by the monk who did not say a word .

The monk took a handful of salt and mixed it into a cup of water and offered it to the man. He drank it and spitted it out as it was too salty.

Next he took a pail of water and mixed in another handful of salt before offering a cup to the man. He took a mouthful and said it is bearable as it is less salty.

Then he took the man to the pond in the temple and threw a handful salt into the water. He took a ladle and scooped a cupful and offered it to the man. This time he drank it and did not complained.

He than explained to the man that if we are to solved problem we must behaved like the pond, able to absorbed the different flavours of life. Be like the water in the pond............

WHY I CHOOSE TO BE A VEGETARIAN????

I do not have to compete with my DOG for meat and It is the green thing to do isn't it? Seriously there is more to this than just the above reason.
All my life I like vegetables more than meat. GOD willing,I came from a middle class family where meat was expansive and I only get to eat them on certain festivals. As I progress in life I became more comfortable financially but before long, I was given the courage and chance to remove all kinds of meat from my diet. It was a slow process but I have never regretted this major changes to my life. People ask why and my only reply was that being a VET, I should know better and if I had pledged to help all living creatures than I should not take part in their killing . The slow torture and the painful death that they go through just to provide that nourishment for me is not justified at all.
WHAT IS HUMANE KILLING when a perfectly healthy animal was killed for its meat? Can we only live on meat or can we live without them? The answer is YES and many great men and women did live a long life without this sinful nourishment.
Biologically, our body was made for a veg diet. Consider the dentition, digestive system and our wisdom. The brain should made us wise enough to be passionate and realized the danger of eating meat. Can we visualized the beauty of the living animals when we tucked into their flesh? Can we hear their cries and suffering when they die for us? Can we imagine the sorrow of their siblings and off springs when they realized their love one is no longer around? Can we imagine the severe stress they agonized when they died, releasing harmful chemicals into their meat? Can we see and hear the suffering of those who endulged too much eating this poisoned meat?
I hope you can see why I do not want to be part of this painful human culture. Often I wonder why some people say they are animal lover when they are still part of this killing culture.
If you love them then do not eat them!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE REAL MEANING OF COMMUNITY WORK

Last night, I was given an opportunity to sit in and learn at the "Meet the people session" at my MP's weekly session. The atmosphere was friendly and hectic too. I was glad that I had this chance to see the other side of community work. It was neither glamorous nor over bearing but it clearly proved to me, the main reason, why our SINGAPORE is so great. What a gracious government we had and how hard our MPs and community leaders worked to better the lives of her citizens. Into the depth of the night, they are still working hard, trying to sort out the complicated issues of others while the rest of the people can sleep in peace and worry less. This burden is not theirs but they took it as theirs.
The maze of life is amazingly complicated with many choices to make and their consequences. After 4 hours at the session, I was convinced that the main purpose of this sessions was to provide an avenue for people in trouble and help by lending an ear to their problem, providing alternative views and solution for them, explaining to them their situation, from a third party and trying to solve their problem in the way they wanted. The main aim was to give them HOPE and Lead them to a better life. From complicated family troubles to those affected by the financial crisis, the solution is not simple but I see most people leave with a lighter heart and a ray of hope. With SMILES and THANK YOUs, they leave with the hope that the world will be more favourable to them tomorrow.
To the MP and community leaders their reward is the satisfaction that they tried to make a difference to someone's life and hopefully for the better.
I left last night with a sense of pride, gratitude, contentment and joy for I am living in the best country in this HUMAN WORLD. The MP and her aides are still hard at work when I left at 12.20am. My only hope is that I can learn quickly and continue to contribute to this great and caring SINGAPOREAN society. MAJU LAH SINGAPORE!!!!!!!!!

A cold new generation of singaporean???Can we make a different?

I often wondered what has become of the younger generation of people in this country? The future is not for us to predict but we can try to help by making the world a nicer place to live now and later. The race to acquire knowledge and excel in it too and the desire to built a comfortable life plus the added fame and fortune is getting far worst then we can imagine. In the battle of the fittest and strongest, humanity lost the conscience that makes the world a pretty and happy place to live in.Wisdom was pushed aside and the selfish side of man reared its ugly head and the older generation sees themselves the rare breed. As we look around we can see the examples of such behaviour and often the cupid also involves the young and old too.
Many a times I see young students and teenagers walking slowly across traffic lights and pedestrian crossing, often talking on hand phones and taking their sweet time strolling across irregardless of the traffic waiting patiently for them. They know they have the right of way but they care less for the poor drivers. In the same situation, is the older folks often on walking aids but they make an effort to walk quickly knowing that they are delaying the precious time of the drivers. The effort of the elders do really touch my heart and I often wonder why the younger human do not see the difference.
Observation aside I do wish for a difference and will try to lead by example rather then preaching. I have also met many wonderful young men and women who set an example not only for the young but the senior too.Often they put them to shame. All it needs is the action of a few to teach and show the future generation how wonderful LIFE CAN BE. We only need to observe and treasure the wisdom of a few for the gems of LIFE will brighten all in humanity.

In the begining

Life can be a pain in the neck but it can also be a blessing and a wonderful experience for the conscience filled individual. What is good for some may be considered bad for others. The right to some is the wrong to others. So what is the meaning and answer to the ever nagging question?
Some found it while others are still searching for the answer. Those who found it will laugh at themselves and wonder why they took so long to locate the answer. Many will ask and blame themselves for not being able to seek the truth.
This blog was created to bring to all the life and time of the foolish man who is still in persuit of the thing called CONSCIENCE.
I am in my 50s,male and have a steady job and a good family. Actively involved in community work and seen all kinds of people I often marvelled at the complexity of life.
After so long I will have to be contended with the way to a happy and harmonious life. It is simple and yet not easy to follow but with practice,it should come like the wind and the sun, simple and fruitful. Three points to follow-----Contentment,Gratitude and Happiness
